Post Indian Independence, no country, no people have paid a price that Bangladeshis did pay for their independence. Today is the 50 th Anniversary of the day that the Bangladeshi flag had gone up in Dhaka Cantonment. Celebrations of 50 th Anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence, it was announced on the 26 th Mar 1971, have been going on since March this year.
There have been high level visits, interaction of veterans of the 1971 war of liberation and many more. Both nations have huge areas of convergence. There is a need also, having fought many battles together, to further strengthen the partnership.

Maj Gen Rafiqul Islam (Retd) Joined Bangladesh Army in 1976. He has been a Directing Staff at Bangladesh Defence Services Staff College. He attended National Defence College Course in New Delhi, India in 2003. He was Director-General, Border Guards, Bangladesh before his retirement.
Lt Gen VK Chaturvedi SM (Retd) is an Artillery Officer of the Indian Army. Retired as the Director General Manpower Planning and Personnel Services at Army Headquarters. He is a veteran of the 1971 War for Liberation of Bangladesh.
